Primarily self-taught, he has studied Art History and Art Appreciation at Purdue University, West Lafayette along with Oil Painting and Photography at the Northern Indiana Artists Association in Munster. Working in oils, Michael enjoys rendering the Indiana landscape as well as Lake Michigan and its beaches and dunes. Michael is active in promoting the arts and has served on the Hamilton County Artists’ Association Board of Directors and on the Noblesville Arts Council. In addition to his studio, his work is available at the Hoosier Salon Gallery and the Indiana Artisan Store in the Carmel Arts & Design District and is exhibited at galleries and museums throughout the state.
I am inspired by the colors, shapes, atmosphere, and seasonal changes I see in the local landscape and I find beauty in the subtle and simple aspects of our natural environments. Striving to remain truthful to my subject, I look to emphasize that which makes it unique and interesting. Throughout the painting process, I also appreciate the feeling of the paint coming off the brush and the rhythm and motion of working across the canvas. In a representational style, I strive to capture the mood of the scene and relay a sense of time and place. My palette, sense of color, and brushwork are among the attributes which distinguish my work.
