Tresa Steenberg

Tresa is a Contemporary, Abstract, and Mixed Media artist. Her work includes layers of acrylic paint, collage elements, pencil, ink, oil pastel, and other various mark-making tools. The piece she is most proud of is “Palimpsest”. Created in 2019 and winner of Best of Show at the 2019 SALI National Abstract Art Show, it is very personal to Tresa. It represents a time of letting go, a time of reflection, and a time of looking forward. Tresa doesn’t have a “dream art project”. She takes this art journey one year at a time. Each year she takes a step out of her comfort zone and evaluates what is important and what is not. “I evaluate what shows to enter and what to take a step back from. One goal I have that Nickel Plate Arts could help with is a Solo show, although that is terrifying!”

Nickel Plate is where Tresa first put her art out for the public to see in 2017. “With encouragement from my husband, I entered one of the monthly shows and had 3 pieces on display. It was an amazing feeling and one of my favorite memories.” Other things we should know about Tresa:
1. She has an amazing and supportive husband.
2. She has 3 daughters whom she is so proud of.
3. She loves to spend the day on the beach at Lake Michigan.
4. She would paint even if she never showed or sold any work. Showing her work is both terrifying and exhilarating.

How did Covid affect Tresa’s creative process? “At the time I was at the CCA Gallery in Carmel so sales stopped at that venue. At the same time, the Tiny Show with Gallery 924 switched to an online show through the Indianapolis Art Center. I was able to make a storefront through their Marketplace. I’ve had several online sales that I would not have had otherwise.” During the Lockdown part of Covid, between having more time at home and the anxiety-reducing effect that painting her, Tresa got A LOT of painting time in. She has a few big art projects/shows she is planning on entering: Tiny Show, The Harrison Center “Silver Show,” and the High Art competition.
