Nourish your appetite for local culture during First Friday at Nickel Plate Arts! These once-a-month events are packed with essential arts nutrients and stuff to make you happy inside and out. Enjoy refreshments, live music, great art, and a cash bar featuring beer and wine from local producers.
If art's purpose is to challenge viewers—to make a statement or alter perception—then can't a tattoo be considered art, too? Like most hotly debated issues, the answer is subjective. However, as the stigma surrounding tattoos fades (studies shows that one in five American adults has one), tattoo lovers approach their tattoos like fine art, collecting from a variety of artists much in the same way that art collectors amass canvases and sculptures. In the last century, tattooing has made its debut in galleries, museums, auctions, and conventions. July marks its exhibition at Nickel Plate Arts. Join us for our opening reception on Friday, July 3rd from 6:00–9:00 p.m. as we celebrate our tattoo artists with live music, refreshments, and drinks. Appointments books and artists will be onsite, available for scheduling bookings. After the reception, "Tattoo Expo" will be open to the public during our normal gallery hours: Wednesday–Friday from Noon–5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
View this stunning, thought-provoking exhibit in our Judge Stone House gallery, enjoy a drink from the cash bar, snack on a variety of refreshments, then stroll over to our Stephenson House gallery for a special showcase of art by Marianne Glick. Enjoy live music from Michael J. McGuire.
