Looking for a way to support you local arts community?  Why not volunteer?!

Each month, we need the help of talented, fun-loving people like you to support all of the amazing things going on in our arts community!  Here are the volunteer opportunities that are coming up this month – just fill out the form at the bottom of the post below or email us at info@nickelplatearts.org to sign up:

 

JANUARY:

  • Data Entry – any weekday in January
    • Assist in entering and editing data into our fundraising and other databases
    • Must be able to type efficiently and work comfortably with computers
    • We can provide training on the exact programs, but previous experience with Bloomerang or other database software would be a plus
    • Any time between 10 am and 4 pm weekdays
  • Second Saturday activity supervisor – Jan 13
    • This month’s craft is Cookie Cutter Felting
    • This craft will involve wool roving, water and some sharp tools, but is generally simple. We can train you on it in approximately 30 minutes
    • This volunteer must be able & willing to initiate conversations, engage people & encourage adults and children to participate
    • 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb 13th
    • This can be split into up to three shifts per day:
      • 9:30 am – 12:30 p.m. (includes set-up)
      • 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
      • 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. (includes tear-down)
  • Gallery maintenance – Any weekday or Saturday in January
    • We need help patching up the walls in the Stephenson House and painting the Showcase gallery
    • We need a volunteer who can commit to seeing this project through from start to finish before Feb 1st
    • We will provide the paint & tools.
    • This project can take place any weekday or Saturday in January between 10 am and 5 pm (evening hours can be arranged upon request)

FEBRUARY

  • Staging Crew for February Exhibit – Jan 31/Feb 1
    • Assist Staff in cataloguing, labeling and arranging items for our January exhibit.
    • This includes de-installing our December exhibit
    • Volunteers get first dibs on purchasing items!
    • Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds, move furniture, and work with delicate objects
    • Must be comfortable with learning to use an ipad
    • We could use up to 2 people from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on January 31 and February 1
    • This can be split into up to three shifts per day:
      • 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
      • 12:30 p.m. – 3 p.m.
      • 3 p.m – 5:30 p.m. (includes some tear-down or clean up)
  • February First Friday event support – Feb 2
    • Assist staff in preparing for, implementing, and cleaning up after the event
    • Must be able to lift 25 pounds and move furniture indoors and out
    • Must be able to work with food and alcohol
    • Must be comfortable utilizing iPad for sales in our sales system
    • 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb 2nd
  • Data Entry – Any weekday in February
    • Assist in entering and editing data into our fundraising and other databases
    • Must be able to type efficiently and work comfortably with computers
    • We can provide training on the exact programs, but previous experience with Bloomerang or other database software would be a plus
    • Any time between 10 am and 4 pm weekdays
  • Second Saturday activity supervisor – Feb 10th
    • This month’s activity will be Valentine’s Day-themed artwork. Instead of a set project, we will have several examples to inspire crafters to make paintings, collages, mixed-media pieces, or other works of art to give as Valentine’s Day gifts.
    • This craft will involve painting, drawing, cutting, collaging, gluing, and glitter . . .
    • This volunteer must be able & willing to initiate conversations, engage people & encourage adults and children to participate, as well as to be confident in taking creative risks and encouraging participants to be creative.
    • 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb 10th
    • This can be split into up to three shifts per day:
      • 9:30 am – 12:30 p.m. (includes set-up)
      • 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
      • 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. (includes tear-down)
  • Valentine’s Day Date Night support – Feb 14,15, 16
    • Assist staff and artists in preparing for and implementing the party and cleaning up after the event
    • Volunteers may assist with craft projects, help with check-in and guest satisfaction, and/or support staging & clean-up
    • Guests will rotate through art stations and be encouraged to shop in our exhibits and artist studios
    • We need volunteers who can lift 25 pounds and move furniture indoors and out, although there can be opportunities for volunteers with limited physical capabilities
    • We need volunteers who can work with food and potentially alcohol
    • May be needed to assist with sales transactions and other campus operations
    • 5 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Wed, Thursday, and Friday, Feb 14-16
    • Volunteers may work one or more nights
    • Shifts can be split:
      • 5:30- 7:30 p.m. (set-up and check-in)
      • 7:30 p.m.- 9:30 p.m. (guest satisfaction, artist support and tear-down)
