Noblesville Visitor’s Center Art Exhibit: Michael L McKinley – Photographer and Artist

Mike McKinley, an award-winning photographer and artist, born and raised in central Indiana. Mike enjoys creating colorful digital art, abstract paintings, wood art, in addition to combining his love of photography and traveling. His eye for color, unusual settings and interesting spaces is evident throughout his entire body of work. His coloration techniques add a special mood making common sightings new and unique. Mike is Hamilton County Juried Artist. His art has been displayed in several art galleries throughout central Indiana. Mikes art can be viewed on Facebook at MLM Artworks and or Fine Art America here . Furthermore one can catch Mike and his artwork at art shows and art fairs throughout the area … that is while he’s not “on location” capturing beautiful new images for MLM Artworks.

Our Creative Community Exhibit

Our Creative Community is an open call-out for Hamilton County artists to exhibit work that will be seen by the general public in the South Corridor of Noblesville’s City Hall.   The annual invitation is extended to the community by the HCAA to support and promote the talent of our local artists. This year 14 local artists participated and their artwork includes a wide variety of media. The public is invited to visit this exhibit at the Noblesville City Hall through Nov. 17.  Most pieces can be purchased on the HCAA Facebook Shop page.

Wednesday Art Classes

These classes focus on art exploration and learning concepts, mixed with a little art history. A project will be completed during each class time.
1:30-2:30 Homeschool Art for ages 6-11
4:00-5:00 After-school Art for ages 6-11
Students will learn about famous artists, and practice techniques using a variety of mediums, as well as skill building. Students will also learn presentation skills and how to positively critique their work and others. On most class days they will complete a project as well as work on something of their choice if there is additional time.  
5:00-6:00 Teen Art
Students will choose their medium and subject matter working progressively on their work each week until completion receiving tips and technique advice along the way.  Collective exercises in skill building occur frequently at the beginning of each class.  Students learn to evaluate their work and set project criteria and goals.

Meyer-Najem Showcase:  KWA

Nickel Plate Arts partner Meyer-Najem has transformed the second story of their beautiful new Fishers building into a bright, modern, open space, perfect for featuring the contemporary works of our local artists. With a passion for supporting the local arts community, Meyer-Najem will host art exhibits viewable to the public from 8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday. For the months of November – December, Indianapolis filmmaker KWA (pronounced “kwah”)  will be displaying a collection of enlarged still images from his abstract films. Inspired by avant-garde filmmakers, KWA uses sound and image in a way that causes his audience to decide what is reality for themselves. KWA’s work will be on display in the Meyer-Najem gallery from November – December 2017 and will be viewable to the public Monday – Friday from 8am – 5pm. Many of the works will be for sale. Nickel Plate Arts will host an Opening Reception on Friday, November 10th from 5-8pm with refreshments and drinks, and the public is welcome to attend.

Awards Reception: Friday, Dec. 1st, 6 to 8pm.
This call-out  and exhibit is open to all photographers. For the first time, this popular exhibit will be judged, and prizes awarded in several categories. The public is invited to visit this exhibit during the month of November at the Birdie Gallery and to enjoy the Opening Reception on First Friday Nov 3rd and the Awards Reception on Friday Dec. 1st.  Light refreshments will be served.

Leslie Hudson Concert

Leslie Hudson is a powerhouse performer and prolific songwriter bringing rock, jazz, metal, blues, folk, filk and funk to conventions and venues across Canada and the USA. The body of her work illustrates the mosaic of the feminine spirit across culture, history and myth, digging into the dirt, traversing the shadows and bringing the truth to light. There’s a Goddess Revolution going on and this rebel redhead is voicing the stories of characters who continue to inspire it, from archetypes to Inhumans, without apology.

Projekt:Opera presents Barber of Seville

Projekt:Opera presents Rossini’s popular comic opera, Barber of Seville. This condensed version of Barber of Seville is performed entirely in English, and is family-friendly. Children under 18 are free!
Can Figaro (the Barber) help the Count to win the fair Rosina’s affections in spite of interference from her guardian, Dr. Bartolo? Come enjoy a light-hearted love story accompanied by some of the most famous opera music ever performed! A live orchestra will accompany the costumed performers for this crowd-pleasing show.

Christ in the Arts Concert

First Presbyterian Church of Noblesville (1207 Conner Street) in partnership with Nickel Plate Arts will host a “Celebrating Black American Gospel Music” Concert and Christ in the Arts art exhibition on Sunday, November 5th, 2017. National recording artist June Rochelle Cheatham will be performing her unique blend of gospel music in concert on Sunday, November 5th at 4pm (with seating taking place at 3:30pm). Artwork on display alongside the concert will fit the exhibit theme of “God’s Creation.” Admission is free and a free-will offering will be taken. Free childcare will also be available. “God’s Creation” will be in display from October 22nd – November 12th and most works will be for sale.

Georgia O’ Keefe Event

Learn about one of our favorite artists, Georgia O’ Keeffe. Paint a mini canvas using an intuitve process resulting in abstract or recognizable floral style. Construct a giant crepe paper flower that can be framed, gifted, or used in various forms of decor. This event is appropriate for ages 8-adult. Celebrate our artist of the month, Georgia O’Keefe by making a mini masterpiece and other paintings that reflect her style.

Tranquility Retreat

This Tranquility Retreat is hosted by Sacred Heart of the Rose. In it, we will discuss today’s bombardments of negativity, and we will explore ways of turning negative energy into positive energy. For many of us, the upcoming Holiday season increases stress, and we can easily get overwhelmed by negative headlines in the news and social media. Sometimes, we just wish we could unplug and run away! Well, you don’t have to run far ~ join our Tranquility Retreat! Within two hours, we’ll discuss our stresses and concerns, and explore ways to turn down the volume of negativity and stress in our lives.
The Tranquility Retreat is free, but we encourage generous donations ~Sacred Heart of the Rose is a 501c3 nonprofit all-volunteer spiritual organization, and your donations help us stay in our location at Logan Street Sanctuary. Art of Business: Building Your Marketing Plan

An in-depth workshop in which you will build a specific and actionable marketing plan for your artwork. Space is very limited — advanced registration required! The Noblesville Chamber of Commerce and Nickel Plate Arts team up to offer The Art of Business and the Business of Art: workshops taught by local business leaders designed to help artists build their business savvy. Each workshop will cover a new topic, including tax preparation, building a marketing plan, tips on social media and how to prep for an art fair.
New in 2017: The Noblesville Chamber will be organizing a social gatherings for artists and business mentors to chat, vent, brainstorm, and problem solve.  These gatherings will start in the spring and will not only be fun networking events, but will provide artists the chance to compare war stories and seek out guidance and mentorship from many different sectors.

2018 The Polk Street Review’s Walk, Photograph, & Write Noblesville Workshop
November 18, 2-5 p.m.

Hosted by The Polk Street Review.  The only tools you’ll need are your legs (and weather-appropriate clothing!), your cell phones, and whatever you like to write on ~ paper or laptops/tablets. We’ll guide you in setting your cell phone cameras to their best resolutions and then we’ll walk a few blocks over to the heart of Noblesville to take photographs of whatever catches your artistic eye! Then, back at Logan Street Sanctuary, where the rest of the workshop will focus on writing something ~ paragraph, poem, short story, song lyrics, memoir ~ inspired by your favorite cell photo from the walk ~ and viola! You will then have created TWO submissions to the 2018 edition of The Polk Street Review ~ an image and a written piece! Part of the workshop will also guide you in downloading a free app to transfer your image files to us directly from your cell phones in their original high resolution format, so they’ll look their best in the published book. If you’re familiar with Noblesville, this workshop is a great way to “see” something new in a familiar place! If you don’t already have a connection to Noblesville, the workshop automatically meets the “Noblesville connection” criteria for submitting to The Polk Street Review.

Her tales will quickly wrap you in a web of triumph and tragedy, will make your hips shake on minute, and your heart break the next while running the gamut of traditional American music… a helping of blues, a little folk, a rasher of ragtime, and a slight flavor of old-time country. Her live show delivers it all handily, with quick wit, infectious groove, tasty guitar work, and a huge voice.

2018 The Polk Street Review’s Songwriting & Arranging Workshop

Hosted by The Polk Street Review. One of the submission categories for The Polk Street Review anthology is “Song Lyrics/Poetry” and this workshop will 1) sharpen your songwriting skills, and 2) give you the chance to create a complete song lyric and submit it to the 2018 edition of The Polk Street Review for publication and presentation at the popular book launch on February 24th 2018!! Songwriters Chris Wilson, John Gilmore, and Zach Craft will guide you through the three hour workshop: about an hour for class, an hour for a writing session, and then everyone will have about an hour to present what was written in sessions. Chris, John, and Zach will focus a little on writing about “your hometown,” as The Polk Street Review is a collection that celebrates Noblesville, and they will also discuss other songwriting subject matter. Song lyrics can be submitted for publication in the 2018 edition of The Polk Street Review at the end of the workshop!
ALL LEVELS of songwriting experience are welcome! Bring your talents and your musical instruments (we have a Baby Grand Piano on site).

Interested in becoming a JURIED artist in the HCAA?
The Hamilton County Artists’ Association (HCAA) is the only JURIED arts organization in our area! The HCAA has been around since 1950, and we are committed to continuing some of the great traditions of the past AND embracing exciting art opportunities in the future! We welcome  a few select artists every year, and our 2018 callout for Jury Applicants is now available to download, fill out, and send in (all info is in the download!).
Application and $40 nonrefundable fee due no later than November 18th.
