Kavita Singh / (317) 452-3690,

New this year! Looking for something fun to do with the whole family? Stop by on the Second Saturday of each month during our open hours (10 a.m.-5 p.m.) for self-guided art projects ($5-10) inspired by our monthly exhibits and programs. Nickel Plate Arts will host an open art lab for families, couples and creatives of all ages to explore, experiment and create together! Nurture your creative side and give the youngest artists in your family the chance to build new skills and learn how to use new tools. Projects change each month and all supplies are included. Parents must accompany children while on campus.

Upcoming art project themes at Second Saturday:

July 8 - Shibori Tie-Dye

Create your own indigo tie-dyed hand towel using the traditional Japanese tie-dye method of Shibori. This project is inspired by our July exhibit, In Living Color! Don’t forget to wear clothes you can get messy in!

August 12 - Collaborative Crafts: Painting Pairs

To match our August exhibit theme of collaboration, create a pair of matching mini canvas paintings - work solo or collaborate with a partner on this craft!

September 9 - Superhero String Art

Who's your favorite superhero? Get in the comic book spirit by creating your own superhero string art, inspired by our annual Comic Book in a Day event taking place October 7th!

October 14 - Day of the Dead Candles

Help us celebrate Day of the Dead (November 1st)! Draw and create designs inspired by Day of the Dead calavera skulls, and transfer them onto a candle to take home.

November 11 - DIY Thanksgiving Centerpieces

Explore fall colors, patterns, and shapes during harvest season! We’ll supply all the tools for your paint and design mini pumpkins, pinecones, and more to create your own arrangement for a Thanksgiving table centerpiece.

December 9 - Encaustic Ornaments

Tis' the season for crafting! Create a unique and artistic glass ornament using the melted crayon method. Plus, we'll have plenty of art supplies on-hand to personalize your ornaments - perfect as a Christmas gift for a loved one!
