New this year! Looking for something fun to do with the whole family? Stop by on the Second Saturday of each month during our open hours (10 a.m.-5 p.m.) for self-guided art projects ($5-10) inspired by our monthly exhibits and programs. Nickel Plate Arts will host an open art lab for families, couples and creatives of all ages to explore, experiment and create together! Nurture your creative side and give the youngest artists in your family the chance to build new skills and learn how to use new tools. Projects change each month and all supplies are included. Parents must accompany children while on campus.
Upcoming art project themes at Second Saturdays:
December 9 - Encaustic Ornaments
Learn all about encaustic art by melting crayons into glass ornaments, and use other art materials, like glitter, paint, poms, and ribbon, to add finishing touches to your ornament! As part of our annual Santas Workshop event, this guided Second Saturday art project is lead by local artist and art teacher Darlene Patterson. Pre-registration is required and session times run between 12-4pm; register at nickelplatearts.org.
January 13 - Cookie Cutter Felting
Get inspired by Woven Together, our textiles-themed exhibit, by learning about the art of felting! Use colored wool roving and cookie cutters to felt your own shapes and letters. Try felting your name and create a one-of-a-kind banner!
February 10 - Family Valentines Day
Bring the whole family in for this one! Celebrate Valentines Day at Nickel Plate Arts and get in the spirit by creating your own V-Day themed artwork (perfect for handing out to loved ones on Valentines Day). Well have sweet treats and 4-5 different craft projects for kiddos and families to create together.
