Calling all sequential art and superhero fans for our fourth annual comic book event!

Our Annual celebration of comic and sequential arts is back and better than ever! As always, there are three key ways that you can get involved:

  1. Become a Challenge Artist and spend 12-hours making a comic book with us. Spots are limited! Sign up today ($20 registration fee - meals provided).
  2. Drop by between 10 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Oct 7th to see the Challenge Artists in action, meet our Featured Artists who are all pros in the field, and channel your own creativity in our Art Lab area (free admission, but some Art Lab activities are $5). 
  3. Sign up your aspiring young heroes for Superhero University, a chance for kids to test their super skills and have lots of fun in the process.  This hour-long program includes crafts and snack ($10 per child).

 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

 

Here’s everything you need to know to get the most out of Comic Book in a Day (note: this schedule may grow or change as we get closer to the event – check back for updates!):
  • 10 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.: The Comic Book in a Day Challenge: Up to 15 artists will each be creating comic books from scratch all day long.  Stop in throughout the day to see their progress!

    10 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.: Art Lab Activities: It’s impossible to be around all this creativity and NOT want to try this yourself!  In our Art Lab, you can channel that creative energy!  Create your own comic panels, hammer out your own Superhero String Art project, make a wallet out of comics & tape, or build your own Superhero accessories out of cardboard. Most projects cost $5 to cover supplies, but some will be FREE!

    11 a.m – Superhero University: A chance for young, aspiring heroes to flex their super muscles and test their abilities, this is a fun, hour-long program that includes crafts, snacks and surprises! Preregistration requited: click here.

    12 p.m. – Learn to Draw with Featured Artist Stuart Sayger: Drawing has been part of Stuart’s daily life since he was old enough to hold a pencil! Don’t miss this chance to learn how to draw one of Stuart’s favorite characters. This family-friendly art lesson will last up to an hour. 

    1 p.m. – Superhero University: A chance for young, aspiring heroes to flex their super muscles and test their abilities, this is a fun, hour-long program that includes crafts, snacks and surprises! Preregistration requited: click here.

    2 p.m – Learn to Draw with Jackie Crofts: Jackie is a master of drawing by hand AND digitally. She will teach you how to draw one of her favorite creatures! This family-friendly art lesson will last up to an hour. 

    3 p.m. – Superhero University: A chance for young, aspiring heroes to flex their super muscles and test their abilities, this is a fun, hour-long program that includes crafts, snacks and surprises! Preregistration requited: click here.

    4 p.m.: Learn to Draw: One of our Featured Artists will teach you how to draw one of their favorite creatures! This family-friendly art lesson will last up to an hour.

    6 p.m.: Featured Artist Stuart Sayger presents “Collecting Comic Art”: Stuart will share insights into the world of collecting original comic art.  This presentation is sure to be filled with interesting tidbits and funny stories! Great for experts and newbies alike!

    7 p.m.: Jackie Croft’s presents “A Career in Comics”: Jackie has made a career for herself in an industry that in notoriously tough to break into. This presentation will be great for anyone who is interested in pursuing work in the comic and graphic novel industry!

    8-8:30 p.m.: The Final Countdown!: Our Comic Book in a Day Challenge ends at 8:30.  Who will be panicked?  Who finished with plenty of time to spare?  Who’s just relieved that they made it through?!

    8:30: After Party and Awards: Each participating artist will share what they accomplished and talk through their stories.  Then, join us as we gather for refreshments and Q&As with our Challenge Artists as our Judges deliberate! The awards ceremony will begin when the judges have made their final decisions  around 9 p.m. . . . unless they just can’t choose a winner . . . ! Don’t miss this opportunity to meet all of the participating artists, marvel at all the artworks that was made during the day, and celebrate our love for comics & sequential art!
