In honor of the Indiana Bicentennial 2016, the Carmel Clay Public Library has organized a year-long series of programs highlighting important people and notable events in local and Indiana history. Celebrate the State: Indiana at 200 will educate and inspire all ages by engaging them in educational activities and programs exploring the unique history of Indiana. In an effort to encourage the public to learn more about our great state, we have chosen programs that touch on many aspects of Indiana's history. From one of our early environmentalists to our many famous composers we hope to bring to light Hoosier insight and creativity, while also focusing on some of the notable historical landmarks, such as West Baden Springs, and historical events. A festive fashion show featuring 200 years of fashion will be the highlight of our summer, and children will enjoy a visit from Clifford the Big Red Dog and learn about the legendary Johnny Appleseed. We have scheduled numerous programs throughout the year to sustain the celebratory nature of the Indiana Bicentennial, and hope to end the year not only having offered educational opportunities for all ages, but having helped create renewed appreciation and respect for our state.
